Ontario faces acute shortages of health workers in the near future. This is particularly the case with laboratory technologists and others involved in laboratory sciences. The OAML's Human Resources Program is designed to provide practical solutions to human resources issues.

The OAML partners with Sci-Tech Ontario to reward student science fair projects in medical laboratory sciences at the junior high and high school level.

Working with guidance counsellors, the OAML is developing programs that will bring high school students face-to-face with the people who work in our laboratories. By giving students this personal contact and exposure to the laboratory environment, our "Thought about labs?" campaign will raise awareness and encourage young people to consider community laboratories as they make their career decisions.

The OAML and its member laboratories provide scholarship funding for students in Medical Laboratory Technology programs to allow them to stay in school and finish their programs. One way to ensure an adequate pool of competent people is to help motivated students complete their studies.

OAML member laboratories work with community colleges to provide clinical placements for students. Students learn the ins and outs of working in a busy community laboratory facility as part of their education.
